My home buying process consists of three steps generally called PREPARE, HUNT, FINISH.  You've made it through the PREPARE step.  You've thought things through and have an idea of the kind of home you want and can afford.  Now, it's time to start the fun stuff.  Let's go HUNT for your new home.
  • How do you find a home?
Many people enjoy searching through websites with home listings to find homes that meet their criteria.  Others will give their Realtor all of the details of what they are looking for and let their Realtor give them a list of homes meeting their needs.  Some will do both.  The thought you put into deciding the type of home you want will help me to narrow your search to homes that closely meet your needs.
  • Which homes do you want to see?
Look through your lists.  All of the homes should match your criteria, but you'll find some of them that you like more than others.  You may have two three bedroom homes.  One may have a loft and one may have a little bigger living room.  One may have air conditioning and the other has ceiling fans.  Once you have a short list of homes that you would like to see, let me know.  I can set up 'showings' for each of them and we can go look through each of them.
  • How do you choose a home?

You can use a notebook or just keep printouts of each of the homes you go to see.  You should keep track of all of the homes you like and take notes.  This will help you remember each home and what you like and don't like about each of them.  After looking at just a few homes, you will quickly realize the things that you find important in your next home.  At this point you can narrow your search a little further.  You will begin to know pretty quickly when a home is right for you.  When the home has everything you need, the price is right, and you like it ... you've found your new home.

At that point, you can sleep on it, go have lunch and think about it, or any number of things.  If you decide we've found your new home, the HUNT is over.  Now it's time to FINISH.
